North Beach Athletics club has had a saviour in Sacred Heart College help them prepare for another gruelling summer athletics season ahead.
Not permitted to use home ground Charles Riley Reserve in North Beach for the Autumn and Winter months, the Blues are forced to find another grass venue. Most northern ovals in Perth are prepared for AFL/Cricket, Rugby and Soccer with uneven ‘sponge like’ grass surfaces designed to absorb impact. Unfortunately, these conditions are not conducive to fast performances.
The club has numerous members attend the college and is very excited and grateful for the support to be able to share the very well manicured lawn.
“It’s a great feeling teaming up with like-minded people. The bottom line is we are continually striving to provide the best training environment to give our students/athletes the most chance of success”, Blues Head Coach Paul Edmiston says.
Sacred Heart’s amazing sporting record.
In the major carnivals Sacred Heart’s record has been outstanding. In athletics, the college has won 19 out of the last 21 carnivals including the last 17 in succession. In cross country, Sacred Heart has been victorious in 17 out of the last 18 titles including the last 10 consecutively. In swimming, the college has won 7 times in the last 10 years including the last five in a row.
Sacred Heart has won the ‘grand slam’ – all three carnivals in the same year six times, including the last five in succession. These have been achieved in 2003 and for the last five years: 2011, 2012, 2013,2014 and 2015. No other co-educational school has ever won a ‘grand slam’.
