On Friday the 1st of February 2013 North Beach Athletics club will be holding a ‘Starts’ coaching clinic at the WA Athletics Stadium from 4.45pm-5.30pm.

You can then try out your start later that evening in the WA Athletics Program D, which includes sprint hurdles races at 6.40pm & 100m at 7.20pm.

The clinic will be FREE for all Hamersley Development Squad & North Beach Athletics members but also be open to the public (12yo+) at a cost of $5 per athlete. Athletes will be able to use the actual starting blocks that are used on Friday Night Competition. Those few HDS members who competed at the Hamersley v Baldivis LA competition last year, will be able to use their FREE AWA Competition Pass later that evening to compete in as many events as they wish.

Blues stars Cole Unasa, Mathew Short & Ben Clark will assist WA coach Paul Edmiston (pic above) pass on the many tips associated with getting off to a powerful start which sets up your entire race. This is essential for a good performance.

Head Coach Edmiston can boast learning from and starting against some of the world’s fastest block starters including 110mh World Record Holder, World & Commonwealth Champion Colin Jackson (UK), Commonwealth & Olympic Games medallist Tony Jarrett (UK) and Olympic & World Championship Gold medalists Roger Kingdom (US), Allen Johnson (US) & Jack Pierce (US).

Unasa, Short & Clark have won several thousand dollars in professional prizemoney over the past two years and have competed against some of the best athletes in Australia, including the best male and professional sprinter in Australian history Joss ‘the boss’ Ross. As well as known fast 100m/200m starter Aaron Rouge Serret.
