The third and final day of the WA State Open Championships has brought the 2011/12 Strive athletics season to a close.

The Blues added another 6 state medals to the grand total of 41. An amazing effort by a club with less than 60 members.

Gold medal wins were performed by North Beach’s Sian Glanney (right) and Andrew Bannister. Sian winning the 200m inĀ  33.14sec, also the high jump with a leap of 1.30m, and then followed up with a mighty throw of 7.08m to win gold in the shot put.

Andrew added more medals to his huge collection taking home gold in the 200m with 30.64sec and then in the 800m going around in 2.57.18sec to bring home the bacon.

Sarah Edmiston improved her own masters discus state record with a silver medal throw in the Women’s open division. The discus sailed over a massive 36.05m.

North Beach Professional runners Ben Clark, Mathew Short and Cole Unasa will fly over to Victoria this week to participate in the Easter $120 000 Stawell Gift carnival.

Andrew Bannister and Sian Glanney will pull on the WA singlet and head to the National Open Athletics Championships in Melbourne later this month. As will Abigail Dargan fly over to Tasmania to compete in the National Little Athletics Championships for WA.

The rest of the Blues squad will now sit back and take a well earned break before cranking it up at winter training again on April 23rd.
