North Beach speedsters Mathew Short and Cole Unasa have made it through to the 120m semi-finals of the 2012 Australia Post Stawell Gift.

In his debut at the historic Easter carnival 22yo Unasa (pictured left) finished a close second in his heat with an adjusted time of 12.344sec from the 8m mark. He finished 15th fastest of the day in the 120m, and easily made it through to the 41 man semi-final. Earlier in the day Cole won his heat of the 70m race with an impressive adjusted time of 7.695sec from his 4.25m mark. His time was 4th fastest 70m of the day placing him among the strong favourites to take home the title back to WA.

Also making his Stawell carnival debut in the 120m was 19yo Mat Short (pictured across far left) who crossed the finish line in second place as well with an adjusted time of 12.492sec, from his 8m handicap mark. Mat finished 35th fastest of the 41 qualifying finalists and will look to improve that performance in the semi’s on Monday.

Later that day Ben ‘bomber’ Clark (pictured across left) narrowly missed out by 0.10sec on making the prestigious 400m ‘Bill McManus’ backmarkers final. His 47.357sec time from the 26m mark would have been good enough to win most of the other heats, but his very tough first up draw has cost him a place in the final this time. Ben was also making his first ever trip to the historic Stawell Easter event.

Both Mat and Cole will feature for the Blues this Monday on Channel ONE as the semi finals are LIVE.

Coverage of the $120 000 Easter carnival final day begins from 12-3pm.
