North Beach Athletics has performed extremely well at the WA Masters State Championships over the weekend collecting 2 state records and 8 more championship medals. This takes the talley to 35 medals for the Blues team so far, smashing last years record of 15.
Sarah Edmiston (below) started Day 1 with her first event throwing within 6cm of her own State W35 hammer record claiming the gold medal with a performance of 37.89m.
Blues life member Barrie Kernaghan carring an injury into the race took home the gold medal running into a headwind in the M70 100m event with a swift time of 14.38sec (-2.0). Sarah then took home the silver medal in Javelin with a throw of 22.71m.
Day 2 started even better with Sarah winning gold in the Shot Put with a throw of 8.52m. Barrie continued to put aside his injury and displayed the winning form again in the 200m claiming gold again with a solid performance of 29.42sec (-1.9) again into a headwind.
Sarah then continued the golden streak with another gold medal in the discus with a throw of 34.71m, this time her performance broke a 20yo state record! She then made her debut in the Weight Throw (similar to hammer throw but with heavier weight) winning gold again with another state record of 11.18m.
Barrie then wrapped up the weekends championships with another gold medal in the 60m dash with 8.79sec into a strong 2.5m headwind.
