North Beach Athletics club continue to break records and rake in the medals at 3 major competitions over the weekend…
Results from Friday night competition saw the North Beach Women’s vice captain Paige Gavranich (above banner photo) run 13.31sec in a race with Olympic hopefull Melissa Breen who won the race (above left, 11.45) and narrowly missed out on the Olymipc ‘A’ qualification time, unfortunately the -0.2 wind conditions would not suit any super fast times during the evening. Paige then backed up with a 27.21sec time in the first heat of the women’s 200m later that night.
Sarah Edmiston (above) broke her own M35 Hammer record with a throw of 37.95m on the night to win the Women’s Open hammer throw. Blues teammates T36 Andrew Bannister (middle below, 15.57sec) beat home fellow member Alan Deans (17.42sec) in the Men’s 100m. Both the guys then battled it out over 200m with Andrew again coming home the stronger in 31.55sec and Alan finishing with 35.94sec. They weren’t finished yet with the 800m to go as well, once again Andrew claiming the ‘hat trick’ of event wins in 2.55.89sec from Alan with 3.05.78sec. Barrie Kernaghan pulling up injured unfortunately recorded his first DNF in the 200m event.
In WA Little Athletics State Championship results from Saturday Junior Vice Captain Abigail Dargan claimed gold in the U13 girls high jump with a leap of 1.48m. She also won silver medals in the long jump with 4.94m and the 80m hurdles in 13.51sec, also bronze in the triple jump with a leap of 10.55sec. Brad Waters won a silver medal in the Boy’s U16 1500m event. Taylor Watson finished 4th in the U16 girls high jump, also 7th in 200m hurdles final with a PB, and 8th in the triple jump with 10.19sec. Ella Italiano-Schmidt (below left) ran 5th in the U16 girls 200m hurdles final with a huge PB of 29.69sec, and was very unlucky to miss out on the 100m final running another PB of 12.97sec in her heat.
At the Australian Junior National Championships in Sydney, North Beach athlete Ben King won a bronze medal in the Men’s U20 4x100m relay. He also finished 5th in the final of the U20 400m hurdles with another PB time of 54.36sec. Adrian Biemmi finished 8th in his heat of the Boy’s U15 200m with a time of 27.49sec. Jane Stockley competed well in her first National competition jumping 1.55m in the U20 high jump.
Well done again to all BLUES competitors over the weekend!
