Many more medals were added to the Junior Blues medal tally on day 2 of the WA State Athletics Championships on Friday night.
In another successful night of competition the North Beach Athletics junior squad added 8 medals to the collection making it a total of 17 so far. This smashes last years record of 15 (junior & senior medals) with one more night of competition to go!
U14 Emily Duke added to her medal total with another silver medal in the girl’s 400m in a time of 1.05.88sec. She then backed up with a strong performance in the long jump to claim bronze with a leap of 4.10m. Baylee Saltmarsh made the final of the girls U15 400m with a performance of 1.05.91sec. Abigail Dargan (pictured below) bagged her second silver medal in the U15 girls long jump with a medal winning jump of 4.48m. In the U16 girls 400m Blues JVC (junior vice captain) Paige Gavranich narrowly missed a podium finish with a 4th place in a time of 1.01.69sec. Taylor Watson was also unlucky to miss out on the medals in the U16 90m hurdles & long jump with a 6th place in both, and a performance of 14.96sec & 4.50m.
In the boys U15 400m the race was dominated by Junior Blues Jarrod De Rosario (1st place) & Adrian Biemmi (2nd). Jarrod on the gold with a time of 58.72sec and Adrian won the silver in 1.07.34sec. Adrian then made a ‘hat trick’ of silver medals (on the night) in the 100m hurdles with a performance of 20.49sec and a shot put throw of 9.14m. Fraser Fullerton was 5th in the U16 boys 400m with a time of 54.79sec. Ben King claimed a gold medal in the men’s U20 110m hurdles with a solid time of 14.86sec and then finished 6th place in the 400m in a time of 51.58sec.
