The North Beach Athletics Men’s Open 4x400m relay team has won silver at the 2012 WA Open State Relay Championships in a time of 3.28.03sec. The team made up of Mathew Short, Tim Branston, Steven Rafty & Ben Clark ran down UWA ‘B’ (3.28.68sec)  in the home straight to snatch the silver medal at the WA Athletics Stadium. It was a tremendous reward for the same guys who improved four and a half seconds since last year finishing 5th in the same race (3.32.53sec) , showing that with consistant training and dedication, improvement will follow. The race was won by favourites UWA ‘A’ in 3.20.83sec.

On the same night North Beach entered a very courageous women’s team of Ella Italiano-Schmidt, Monique Nicolaou, Baylee Saltmarsh & Lara Wood that finished 5th with 4.25.90sec in the Women’s Open 4x400m race. The same group of girls could have raced in the U16’s which would have probably won most competitions in that age group.

Well done to all the North Beach relay members, you have done us proud once again!

In other news Fraser Fullerton ran an U16 national qualifer in the 800m last night – 2.02.7.  He took another 2 seconds off his best time.  We believe it is the third quickest time in his age group in WA this season – only Callum Duffy and John Newcombe have recorded slightly faster times at WAAS.  Fraser has decided to go to Sydney for the Australian Junior Nationals in March later this year.

The Women’s 200m hurdles event was dominated by the North Beach girl’s with Taylor Watson winning in a time of 33.37sec from Jane Stockley 34.07sec in second and Ella Italiano-Schmidt finishing third with 35.00sec.

Speedster Cole Unasa takes out the Men’s Open 60m sprint impressively again with a time of 7.10sec as veteran hurdler Paul Edmiston mixes it in the first heat finishing in 7th place with 7.56sec.
