Personal best performances was the result of a brutal battle in the extreme heat at the WA Athletics Stadium on Fri 25th Feb. In the running of the men’s 400m, Ben ‘Fort’ Knox (third from left) confirmed he will watch his long time friend and arch rival Michael Sala (second from left) ‘salad’. Knox ran a huge PB finishing 5th in a time of 58.73sec with Sala finishing (with a PB as well) in 6th place in 59.84sec. Both men broke the 1min barrier for the first time. ‘Let’s see what happens after winter’, Sala suggested after his bitter loss, “As newbies on the track we’ve both been pushing it hard. Knox has had a long run with shin splints at the beginning of the season, and I recently ran into a back injury and a few colds”. This marks the end of Sala’s season as he travels to Europe before he returns to uni, Knox, on the other hand, has a little more time left and should be set to make another PB soon. Ben Clark also ran a massive PB in the mens’s open 400m with 51.80sec. Blues captain Steve Rafty saw a glimps of his old form when he returned to winning ways by winning his heat, and setting a new PB of 54.08sec.

Junior Blue Paige Gavranich is running herself into form at the right time of the season, flashing home in the women’s 100m to set a new PB of 13.21sec. Paige then backed it up one hour later with another PB  performance of 1.01.36sec in the women’s 400m.

Blues speedster Andrew Bannister ran a PB in the men’s 100m in a time of 15.03sec. Then ran another massive 4sec PB in a time of 1.11.55sec in the men’s 400m, both run’s were national qualifiers. Andrew is hitting form at the right time ahead of the AWD state & national championships.

Sarah Edmiston continues to improve with 33.52m for 2nd place in the womens open discus. And followed up with a SB throw of 37.59m to win 3rd place in the women’s open hammer. Junior Blue Dave Mahood continues to win the men’s 4kg hammer with a throw of 26.56m.

North Beach Athletics members did a fantastic job of helping on club duty day with the hurdles on the front straight.

A huge thanks goes out to all those who helped on the night!
