Congratulations! to 16yo local footballer Zechariah Morlumbun making his professional running debut and placing 4th in the Dardanup 120m gift final. Zech played for Nollamara JFC last winter and won $180 for the days efforts. He has just started working on his speed with North Beach during the off-season.
Earlier in the day, outstanding rugby union player Cole Unasa very narrowly missed out on his maiden victory to place 2nd in the 70m sprint race again. Cole adds $150 to his Mullewa earnings and will join his rugby union club side (Nedlands) for a tour of asia in a fortnight.
After winning his grand final this year (by 1 point) for Whitfords U/17’s, footballer Tim Branston ran a solid 120m to finish a close 2nd in the Novice race, winning $160. Fellow footballers Will Anscombe & Ben Clark finishing in the minor placings. William also made the final of the 70m sprint.
New found soccer speedster David Cicchini amazingly make both major finals (70m & 120m) in his professional debut, winning $180 for the day. This is an awesome effort from Dave in his first ever running meet (pro’s or ameteurs).
Special mention must go to an outstanding effort from ‘Mr Finals’ Leigh Edwards finishing 3rd in the 70m sprint final and 7th in the 120m. Leigh continues to improve his bank balance (adding $140) and impressive record of making every final he has entered since his debut in 2008.
Footballer Bomber Clark and NBA Captain Steve Rafty performed solidly to take out minor placings in the 550m handicap race, picking up the minor prizemoney. Josh Baharthah was unlucky to miss out on both finals.
Next meeting is at the Perth Festival November 20 & 21st.
